Our issue
Australia is home to many gorgeous beaches. Endless coastlines, sparkling blue oceans, and beautiful golden sand beaches. Sadly, these stunning coastlines are being destroyed by extreme quantities of plastics and litter. Our local wildlife is at major risk. Marine litter is a vast and quickly growing issue. Approximately 8 million small items of litter, enter the marine habitat EVERYDAY. Around 70% of this litter ends up on our ocean floors, 15% on coastlines and beaches and the remaining tends to float to the surface. As much as 3 times as much rubbish is dumped into the world's oceans annually as the weight of fish caught. Plastic is very quickly filling and over ruining our beautiful oceans. For every square kilometre of ocean, an estimated 13,000 pieces of plastic float on the surface. Plastic takes roughly 450 years to fully break down in the ocean.
